Homework - 8th grade
America is coming of age. We are in what is known as the antebellum period. This is the time period before the Civil War and generally goes from 1820-1860. During this era, America begins to confront a number of its problems. These include: concerns over the rise of alcohol abuse, treatment of enslaved people, treatment of women, lack of public education, and the poor quality of institutions such as prisons and asylums.
In addition, as we are entering the presidential primary season, we will begin to study how the Democrats and Republicans choose their respective candidate for president. We will look at the issues being discussed by the candidates. We will also talk about the difference between a caucus and a primary.
